Mochi Snore

The short version. Snore listens while you sleep and works out what it heard on the phone itself. The recordings never leave your device — there is no upload path for audio in the app at all. There is no account and no sign-up. The app does report anonymous usage counts, described in full below, and because there is no account they carry no name and no email.

Everything about your nights:
We have no copy of any of it and we cannot read it. Deleting a night deletes its audio. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Snore uses Firebase Analytics to count how the app is used, so we can tell which parts are worth improving. It reports named product events whose values are counts, durations in whole minutes, and fixed options — for example that a recording was saved, roughly how many snores it contained, how many minutes it ran, and which screens were opened.
Two identifiers come with that:
The app also sends crash reports through Firebase Crashlytics: a stack trace, the iOS version and the device model when something goes wrong, plus the same random identifier so we can tell one phone crashing ten times from ten phones crashing once. Nothing about a night is attached to a crash — no recording, no note, no factor you named, and never a file name.
Because there is no account, none of this is attached to a name, an email address or a person. We can see that some anonymous installation recorded a night with forty snores. We cannot see whose it was.

The app also declares the background audio mode, which is what lets a recording keep running with the phone locked and the screen off. It is not a permission you are asked for and it grants no access to anything else.
Google, as the provider of Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics, processes the anonymous usage counts and crash reports described above on our behalf. There is no advertising network and no server of ours. No data of yours is sold, and none of it is combined with data from other companies.
One other service is reachable from the app, and only if you go and tap it. Settings → Feedback opens our public feedback board, hosted by Featurebase, as an ordinary web page inside the app. The app hands it nothing: no recordings, no statistics, no identifier. From there you are simply using a website, and what you choose to write on it is public. Posting requires an email address, which is a Featurebase sign-in rather than a Snore account — we never have one of those to give you.
Mochi Snore is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. There is no chat, no user-to-user messaging, and no public content in the app.
Snore does not diagnose anything and does not detect sleep apnoea. Loud, frequent snoring with pauses in breathing can be a sign of it, and that is worth raising with a doctor rather than with an app. Nothing the app shows you is a medical finding, and the score is a way of comparing your own nights to each other.
If we change what the app collects, we'll update this page and change the date at the top before the change ships. Material changes will also be noted in the release notes.
