Mochi College
Mochi College is a browsable copy of the federal college data, sitting on your phone. If something isn't behaving, start here — and if the answer isn't below, write to us.
Does it work without a connection?
Yes, all of it. Every college, every figure and every filter ships inside the app, so browsing, searching and saving work in aeroplane mode. The only thing that needs a connection is tapping through to a college's own website.
Where do the numbers come from?
The U.S. Department of Education's College Scorecard, the public dataset colleges are required to report into. Costs, admission rates, enrolment and programs are as that dataset last published them, which means they trail the current academic year — treat them as the shape of a school, not a quote.
A college is missing, or a figure looks wrong.
Both trace back to the same place. A school missing from the Scorecard, or reporting nothing for a given field, is missing here too, and a figure that looks odd is usually odd at the source. Tell us which school and which number at hello@ptk-studio.com — we check it against the dataset and pick it up in the next update.
How does the data get updated?
Through an app update. Because the figures live in the app rather than on a server, a refreshed dataset arrives as a new version from the App Store.
How do I save a college, and can I annotate it?
Save from anywhere you see a college — Browse, Explore or the school's own page — and it lands in My List. Each saved school takes a note, which is the place for a deadline, a campus visit, or why it caught your eye.
What's in Explore?
Three ways in when you don't have a name to type: curated lists, browse by state, and browse by major — the last grouped into categories so you can start from a field rather than a school.
Can I switch to dark mode?
Settings → Appearance, Light or Dark.
How do I delete my data?
Swipe a school in My List to remove it, or clear the whole list from Settings → Data. Everything the app keeps lives on your phone, so deleting the app takes the rest with it. There is no account to close, because there was never one to open.
What do you collect about me?
Nothing that identifies you, and nothing about which colleges you look at — searches never leave the device. We do count app opens and screen views to see which parts get used. The privacy policy names the two services involved and exactly what each one receives.
Email hello@ptk-studio.com, or send feedback. Tell us your iPhone model, the iOS version, and which school or screen you were on — that is the detail that helps most.
